A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J. Maas

Synopsis:

Looming war threatens all Feyre holds dear in the third volume of the #1 New York Times bestselling A Court of Thorns and Roses series.

Feyre has returned to the Spring Court, determined to gather information on Tamlin’s maneuverings and the invading king threatening to bring Prythian to its knees. But to do so she must play a deadly game of deceit-and one slip may spell doom not only for Feyre, but for her world as well.

As war bears down upon them all, Feyre must decide who to trust amongst the dazzling and lethal High Lords-and hunt for allies in unexpected places.

In this thrilling third book in the #1 New York Times bestselling series from Sarah J. Maas, the earth will be painted red as mighty armies grapple for power over the one thing that could destroy them all.

Review:

Holy Cauldron! That was awesome!
Feyre was a badass. The way she infiltrates the Spring Court was brilliant. It's quite refreshing seeing her pull the strings. And Rhysand, I just love the guy; he's Feyre's partner in crime, her shoulder to cry on, her best friend, and her lover. So much the opposite to a certain blonde brooding idiot that likes to lock up girls in his house.
The plot was fast-paced for the most part. I had to skim a few parts that were way to loaded with descriptions, but that still didn't make me any less anxious to turn the pages. There were several plot twists that took me by complete surprise, which is always a plus.
The character development was good. I would've liked getting to know Nesta better though, I still don't know what her deal is. Lucien got his redemption, he gets thrown into a difficult situation and manages to face it like the Faerie I knew he was.
Rhysand's circle is again one of the best parts of the story. Armen and Azriel are my fave; I like how his silence says it all, and how Amren turns into the voice of reason in the most unexpected moments.
Getting to know all the high Lords was something. Some are likable, some are not, but the reason why they are in charge of their people is clear.
The final battle wasn't quite as I expected it, but I liked it nevertheless. I so lost my bets about who would kill who, but in a way it made sense.
I see a re-read in the future.

A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas

Synopsis:

Feyre survived Amarantha's clutches to return to the Spring Court—but at a steep cost. Though she now has the powers of the High Fae, her heart remains human, and it can't forget the terrible deeds she performed to save Tamlin's people.

Nor has Feyre forgotten her bargain with Rhysand, High Lord of the feared Night Court. As Feyre navigates its dark web of politics, passion, and dazzling power, a greater evil looms—and she might be key to stopping it. But only if she can harness her harrowing gifts, heal her fractured soul, and decide how she wishes to shape her future—and the future of a world cleaved in two.

Review:

This is how you do a sequel.
Sarah J. Maas has taken her world to a whole new level, and also her characters. It was great from beginning to end, little time to take a breath, just the way I like my books. Feyre has changed, it was clear at the end of ACOTAR she was gonna pay a high price for the ordeal she had to go through to defeat Amarantha, but it still surprised me. And Tamlin, any slight affection I could've felt for the whiny bastard disappeared quite fast.
Rhysand was brilliant, I absolutely loved getting to know him better, trying to figure him out. The endless banter between him and Feyre is entertaining as hell.
The introduction of the new characters was on point. Mor, Cassian, Azriel, and Armen are an amazing lot. They have gone through unspeakable things, they're hurt, and still are an example of what real friends are like.
The plot twists were good, a few actually took me by surprise.
That end was probably the best part, I was actually yelling at the book. You know a book is good when you act like a total lunatic and don't care if the people around you look at you wide-eyed.

PS: I was so right about what Rhys saw at the end of ACOTAR. Sherlock Holmes who?

A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas

Synopsis:

Feyre's survival rests upon her ability to hunt and kill – the forest where she lives is a cold, bleak place in the long winter months. So when she spots a deer in the forest being pursued by a wolf, she cannot resist fighting it for the flesh. But to do so, she must kill the predator and killing something so precious comes at a price ...

Dragged to a magical kingdom for the murder of a faerie, Feyre discovers that her captor, his face obscured by a jewelled mask, is hiding far more than his piercing green eyes would suggest. Feyre's presence at the court is closely guarded, and as she begins to learn why, her feelings for him turn from hostility to passion and the faerie lands become an even more dangerous place. Feyre must fight to break an ancient curse, or she will lose him forever.

My review:

So, I decided to see what was the fuss about, and I was definitely not disappointed.
I had my doubts at the beginning, the first 20% of the book was slow for me, mainly because I wanted to slap some sense into Feyre, she was being too stubborn and repetitive. Fortunately that didn't last and the action and character development took off making the pages fly.
The worldbuilding was beautiful, the descriptions vivid, and the mythology easy to follow.
Feyre and Lucien became my favorite characters. I like how inventive and brave she can be under pressure. And Lucien, he can be so difficult to figure out, which is precisely why I enjoyed him so much. I tolerated Tamlin, but did not fell for him.
Amarantha was a good villain, she's bonkers, but has a motive. Under her anger and evil, she's hurt, that's what makes a villain interesting. With Rhysand I'm torn, I wanted to kill him at times, but then understood the reason behind his actions and gave him another chance.
The answer to the riddle was obvious for me after reading it once. Maybe I'm the exception, or maybe that was the author's intention, to have you mentally screaming at Feyre the obvious answer, I don't know.
That ending was great though, a mystery, a battle, a transformation, lots of action, I loved it.
I'm also pretty sure I know what Rhysand saw, let's see if I'm wrong.

Wandfasted by Laurie Forest

Synopsis:

"When they painted "Heretics" on our barn and set fire to it, I thought that was the worst it could get.

Until they sent the dragons.

But they didn't count on us having dragons of our own. And they certainly didn't count on Her. Our Great Mage. The Bringer of Fire. The Storm of Death. The Crow Sorceress. Our Deliverance.

The Black Witch."

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I'm having a seriously bad fangirling case. Wandfasted is amazing! I enjoyed it as much as The Black Witch.

Wandfasted tells the story of how Tessla and Vale (Elloren's parents) knew each other. It also shows why Carnissa Gardner became a legend, and believe me you don't want to miss that. With a fast pace and a beautiful worldbuilding, this book is simply impossible to put down once you start.

I absolutely loved getting to know Tessla, she's a badass, the kind of MC that I can't get enough of: intelligent, brave, selfless, strong and mature. Vale I had to warm up to, but once you get to know him better he's easy to love. I especially enjoyed that Vale (view spoiler).

Is also quite the experience getting to know the parents of other characters from the The Black Witch. You get a lot of: "now I get it".

I completely recommend this book for anyone who knows how to read, and if you don't, here's a good reason.

Eventually, the weight of her curse falls upon her daughter's shoulders, Talia. A brave and loving girl, forced to become a woman sooner than she should have. But she embraces her fate head-on, with grace and courage despite the threat.

My review

It was a refreshing read. You know that feeling when you're stuck and you don't know what to read to feel better? Ta-da! Bali is a quick fix.
Hannah and her friends were a joy to read, they are a support group for each other, and know how to have fun. Callum is a rather refreshing male lead, he's more than just a pretty face; he has a good heart and a fun personality.
There was some angst an emotional moments, but that didn't take away the enjoyment out of the story; quite the opposite, it made it feel real.
Overall a fast paced and fun read. Perfect to grab after a rough day. Beautiful scenarios, humor, hot guys, what more can a girl ask for? You will devour Bali in no time.

Eliesmore and The Green Stone by Angela J. Ford

35565049Eliesmore and The Green Stone by Angela J. Ford
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

And I'm back in Angela J. Ford's world. This is the third book I've read from her and the lore just keeps getting better. This time Eliesmore is the protagonist, the chosen one a prophecy talks about, the one to put an end to the war that's ravaging the world.
He is not alone, his Company is a talented and brave one. Brave warriors that help the young and inexperienced Eliesmore find his way. My favorite without a doubt would be Visra, a fierce and unpredictable warrior with a crazy sense of humor, and a heart full of revenge.
There were new creatures to know, mysteries to uncover and quite a handful of epic battles. The characters are complex and bring their own element to the story. Recommended for those who like adventure and heroes in the making.

Keys of the Origin: Book 1: The scions of balance by Melissa A. Joy

Keys of the Origin by Melissa A. Joy
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Synopsis:
In a world where ancient races still dwell,
the events of an age-old prophecy begin to stir.
From the pages of an antique tome,
there is much the ancients themselves have yet to learn.

The time has come for the Keys of the Origin to play their part in restoring balance to Aeldynn; but how will their choices affect the outcome?

Two young men; one a righteous law-abiding servant to the people, the other a distinguished outlaw, don't yet realise they are to play a part in a foretold bid for the future of Aeldynn. Fate leads them down a road they would never have dreamed of following; a road that leads them into a struggle to bring the world back into a state of balance from the precipice of madness and desolation.

It is not only Zehn and Larkh who are fated to take on the malevolent forces of Aeldynn; there are others who must join with them as they are coaxed into the embrace of the ancient Nays and the fabled Drahknyr, who are also entangled in the masterful puppeteering of a renegade sorceress hell bent on reviving the greatest threat of all; Alymarn.

Review:
It’s a shame I can't give it 10 stars! I'm obsessed. I'm looking forward to a re-read less than a day after finishing Keys of the Origin. I don't even know where to start.

The book begins with the awakening of the Kaesan’Drahknyr, the seven mighty warriors that protect Aeldynn. After a slumber of 3000 years, they are called to protect the balance between Aevnatureis and its evil counterpart Phandaerys. Not to mention the many races that dwell in Aeldynn, for evil rises one more time. And an ancient prophecy is becoming a reality.

Melkhar, the fiercest of the Kaesan’Drahknyr has been tasked with the protection of Arcaydia, a young woman with growing powers. On her way, Melkhar discovers the human kingdoms are on the brink of war. Forced to part ways with her protector, Arcaydia meets Larkh, he is a pirate, but not a typical one. Larkh is smart beyond his years and has more than a couple mysterious trades. Larkh is being chased by Zehn, a law enforcer that travels accompanied by a mage, Raeon.

Raeon is a Silver Mage, member of an order that follows the knowledge of the Nays, the ageless race that brought to physical existence the Drahknyr, and the Kaesan' Drahknyr.

Kalthis is also a Kaesan’ Drahknyr, he's in tune with nature in a unique way, which allows him to obtain knowledge no-one else can reach. All will be connected in the battle against Zerrçainne, a powerful sorceress that used to be a Galétriahn Highlord, a Nays High Mage. She plots to rise to power through manipulation and dark sources of magica.

And that’s as far as I’ll go with details. Spoilers are a pain.

The plot is well-paced, allowing the reader to become familiarized with the lore and the characters right in the midst of great discoveries and epic battles. There are edge of the seat moments; it made wish I could read faster.

The characters have an ample specter, not only in personality and trades but also in kin. Humans, Nays, Elves, Drahknyr, hybrids... The reading is easy; despite being my first time reading about such a rich world it didn't become heavy in any moment. The way the story is told and the vivid descriptions made me feel at times like I was there watching everything happen; sometimes even like a video-game.

I love the way the eternal battle between the light and the darkness has been approached. It is a different way to tell such a story.

My favorite character without a doubt would be Melkhar; I knew it would be after reading just one line of her point of view. She is fierce, powerful, highly intelligent, and merciless when she has to be. There is much to learn from her; oftentimes, her actions reveal more than her words. She's refreshing. Not just for a female character but in general.

Overall, the best book I've read so far without a doubt. An epic story with mighty heroes, powerful villains, and beautiful lore. I can't wait to read more from Melissa Joy. Hell, I'd read her grocery list.

The Black Witch by Laurie Forest

Synopsis:
A new Black Witch will rise…her powers vast beyond imagining.

Elloren Gardner is the granddaughter of the last prophesied Black Witch, Carnissa Gardner, who drove back the enemy forces and saved the Gardnerian people during the Realm War. But while she is the absolute spitting image of her famous grandmother, Elloren is utterly devoid of power in a society that prizes magical ability above all else.

When she is granted the opportunity to pursue her lifelong dream of becoming an apothecary, Elloren joins her brothers at the prestigious Verpax University to embrace a destiny of her own, free from the shadow of her grandmother’s legacy. But she soon realizes that the university, which admits all manner of people—including the fire-wielding, winged Icarals, the sworn enemies of all Gardnerians—is a treacherous place for the granddaughter of the Black Witch.

As evil looms on the horizon and the pressure to live up to her heritage builds, everything Elloren thought she knew will be challenged and torn away. Her best hope of survival may be among the most unlikely band of misfits…if only she can find the courage to trust those she’s been taught to hate and fear.

Review:
The Black Witch is going straight to my I-will-never-get-tired-of-reading shelf. It is the kind of book that makes you feel every emotion, anxiously go through the pages, wishing it never ends, and think about it when you go to sleep. I could write a detailed and full of spoilers review, but I don't want you to miss the opportunity to experience it all by yourself.

The world-building is magnificent, perfectly described along the chapters without dragging the story down. The descriptions of the places and the people are so vivid you can see everything, which is perfect because you don't want to miss one bit of this magical new world.

Elloren is a 17-year-old Gardnerian, the ruling “superior” race of mages. A descendant of a long line of powerful mages, including the most powerful of them all: The Black Witch, her grandmother. She lives with her uncle Edwyn and 2 brothers, Rafe and Trystan, in a small village. Her life is quiet and calm until her aunt Vyvian, a powerful mage, shows up deciding is time for Elloren to get Wandfasted (married). But Elloren has other plans, (thanks Ancient One). She wants to make a life for herself before becoming tied to someone, something her uncle supports, so she decides to go to college first. Her aunt Vyvian has her own plans for Elloren, and she’s willing to enforce those plans whether Elloren agrees or not. Vyvian's habit of getting her way uncovers her true self.

The characters have a wide spectrum. From the ones you know are going to be a headache for Elloren. To those that are very difficult to figure out until the moment is right. It's one of the first times I've found myself loving so many characters at once but is just impossible to pick a favorite, there's a fierce wolf girl, beautiful and powerful Elves, interesting "demons", and of course Elloren.

I liked Elloren, she's intelligent and brave. Despite having so many prejudices being fed up to her, she's able to make her own opinion. She rises up to bullies and has a conscience. Her journey to uncovering the truth is a long and painful one, both for her and those around her, but is well worth it.

The character development is exquisite. Not only Elloren's but everyone else's. Just as she had to fight her prejudice, so do those around her. They have to learn to trust her, a difficult task given her resemblance to the Black Witch. But, soon they have to learn to see beyond as she did, that actions speak of someone's true self more than anything else. We see Elloren gain nerve, protecting her friends, and doing what’s right becomes her first priority.

Danger abounds, moments where you just can’t take your eyes off the pages. Once enemies become friends and allies, the horrid acts of the governing class more obvious, the charade of perfection falls. And the end, the end is perfect, leaving you anxious to know what’s next and with new questions burning.

What I liked the most about The Black Witch is how relatable it is to our world. The segregation of the higher social classes, the religious prudeness, the prejudice that stops people of different cultures to know each other better. Laurie does a great job presenting all the points of view of the conflict.

Overall, an emotional and philosophical rollercoaster, full of magic, action, and powerful messages. A must-read for those who know how to keep an open mind and are hungry for something refreshing.

My favorite lines:
"People see what they expect to see. Through a filter of their own hatred and prejudice."
"My apologies. I forgot that your religion is the only one correct."

The Blended Ones by Angela J Ford

Synopsis:
Phyllis and her 17 year old twin sister, Ilieus are blended ones. But Ilieus suffers from vision of darkness she is unable to discern. Forsaken by their parents the two cross the country in search of the Order of the Wise for help.

Cuthan the Charmer is mischievous enough to change anyone's  mind with a smile and a wink. Born into a family of treasure hunters, he's  searching for the key to unlocking his dormant powers.

Pharengon the Horse Lord was born to be King. Young and inexperienced he seeks a weapon to turn the tide of the war in his favor. But when his very own army betrays him, he will have to turn to the Lost Ones for assistance.

Caught in the fate of the Eastern World the youths destinies become twisted together in a frightful quest that will change the course of time. In the midst of their whirlwind adventure, they discover love, loss and uncover the truth about who and what is behind the chaotic, spiraling events in the Eastern World.

Review:
Where to begin? I think by saying Angela J ford has entered my favorite authors list. Her previous book, The Five Warriors, took me to a new world I want to visit, The Blended Ones has reminded  me why.
The plot centers on the slow and consistent decay of the Eastern World; the people groups are turning to hunt those who are Blended, which means those who belong to two people groups. It is believed the Blended Ones are the cause for the destruction of the land.
Ilieus and Phyllis are blended, they found themselves alone and with many questions to be responded, therefore they embark in an adventure. A journey filled with peril that will raise even more questions, and uncover difficult truths.
They are well accompanied by Cuthan and Artenvox, two mischievous and fun charmers. They are a delight to read, intelligent, resourceful, and unpredictable. I was constantly wondering what side were they on.
We also have brave Lord, Pharengon. Unselfish and willing to fight for his people, he carries a great responsibility, his wisdom and calmed demeanor were what I love the most about him.
Overall, The Blended ones is an action packed adventure. With turns and revelations that are hard to predict, fun scenes, and capable of giving a healthy book hangover.

Jebediah's Crime by Vincent Phan Tran

Jebediah's Crime
Synopsis:
The Hinge: A supernatural island-nation like a wound in our reality where Gods and Monsters walk hand-in-hand and angels fear to tread. In an age of smartphones and satellites, its origins and purpose still remain shrouded in mystery.

Aging bounty hunter Jebediah Creek must protect a war-torn family from Raja Rakash, the greatest warrior in history and champion of a powerful House.

What happens when two men of violence, one driven by fear and the other by shame, go to battle over the life of a family...

And the fate of the Hinge itself?

Review:
You know you've read a good book when you wake up the next morning thinking about it, trying to figure out the questions left unanswered, shaking your head with the characters antics. Jebediah's Crime can sure do that.
This book is an action packed rollercoaster. With turns and twists that make you anxious to know what's next. I felt as I was watching a movie, the descriptions are perfectly balanced with the action scenes, there isn't a moment to feel bored.
The lore is seasoned with different trades of known mythologies, which makes it both easy to understand, and rich.
The characters are multifaceted, each carrying with responsibilities and a dark past. Jebediah, the protagonist, is a tormented bounty hunter that doesn't see a hero in the mirror, but rises to protect those he cares about. He's very well accompanied by Ara, a bad-ass female bodyguard, several other bounty hunters like him, ex-marines, and a strong yet sweet old woman.
The antagonists are truly a challenge, not only are they vastly powerful but rotten to the core. Their hunger for power consumes their humanity, therefore they're unpredictable and savage. Raja, Jebediah's main problem, is quite difficult to label, he lays on a grey area, sometimes a very dark one.
Overall, an awesome read for those who love a rich story with the perfect balance between action, drama, humor, and darkness.

365 Days Alone: A Dystopian Post-Apocalyptic Fantasy (The 365 Days Quadrilogy Book 1)

35368535

Synopsis:
They were just two teenage girls--utterly normal in every way--until they woke up one morning to discover that they were all alone in a world gone mad. Somehow, while they slept, the world had changed; their parents, their friends, all had been taken...all disappeared. Now Kaylee Michelson and her best friend, Jay, must figure out not only how to live in this strange, new world--but how to survive.

These are the facts as the girls know them:
1.Everyone is gone.
2.There is no internet, no t.v., no electricity, no phones; not even batteries work anymore.
3.It is very, very quiet.

Kaylee and Jay--two terrified teenage girls who think they are all alone.
Only--they are wrong!

Review:
Dystopias are a difficult genre to write. Once you've read one, you feel like you've seen it all. But definitely not in this case. 365 Alone is simply brilliant. Nancy Isaak has created a plot that sounds familiar but it isn't. The twists are beautifully designed, despite knowing sometimes that something is gonna go wrong, most times my assumption failed, and I was pleasantly surprised.

Kaylee and Jay are a joy to read. Not your usually whinny and unresourceful teenagers. They're brave enough to stay true to themselves despite the difficult trials they have to go through. kaylee is the main point of view, but we also get a peek at the way Jay sees things, and she's just as interesting. They come across several allies in this new world, and they come from the most unexpected places, making our girls mature and question their previous conceptions.

The antagonists are very well created. Most times you're not sure who's friend or foe, but when you do, you wonder: how can someone be so damn evil?! Pernicious, selfish, revengeful, twisted creatures. A total contrast to the good girls.

Overall, I absolutely loved it! Its definitely one of those books that make you go to bed and just think about what you read, the kind of book you'll be thinking of for days. Despite being 505 pages long it didn't feel like it, it took me only two days to read it.

The Five Warriors by Angela J. Ford

The Five Warriors

Synopsis:
What if…
Your best friend started a rebellion in the middle of a war?
Your lover awakened a deep evil and helped it grow?
Your people were too cowardly to face a battle?
You stole an ancient power source?
You gambled with the fate of the world?

Review:
I'm a sucker for epic adventures, and The Five Warriors is definately one. Angela J. Ford takes her reader into a trapping world, so different and yet so similar from our own. The land is ill, people are being killed, and sometimes even worse. It is the crusade of our heroes to restore balance and vanquish an evil so great the immortals prefer to back down.
The characters are very well designed. Each with a dark past, a heavy load of grief, and a reason to fight on the war. Picking my favorite was hard, but i finally decided it will be Alaireia. A fierce and brave female warrior, and the reason is that for the first time I feel satisfied with how a female warrior is portrayed.
Short story long, I loved it. The descriptions were vivid, but didn't delayed the story, the characters had flaws that made you root for them even more. The plot was full of mystery, and kept me trapped. The end was a new beginning bering promises of another epic quest. Totally recomend it for, well basically anyone who enjoys a great adventure.

Jebediah's Crime Vincent Phan Tran

So, I just read a little sneak peek of the first instalment of The Hinge Series by Vincent Phan Tran, and I loved it. 4 chapters we more than enough to envision a world that is dark, and beautiful.
The lore is seasoned with different trades of known mythologies, which makes it both easy to understand, and rich. The characters are fun to follow, each with a different background and cultural trade, enriching the story.
One of my favorite aspects is that is hard to take sides on the upcoming battle, there is no black and white, but several shades of gray.

Ascension by Matthew Johnson

Synopsis:
Sometimes love is not enough.

Exiled and orphaned by war, Jarrod begins cultivating a new life protecting those he once saved. When a strange woman and child enter Jarrod’s life, everything begins to unravel. A stronger, more powerful force sets the mechanisms of war into motion. Shadow casts over the land of man and the gods prepare to battle for the fate of the Created. Once more Jarrod discovers himself a tool for the divine and must transcend his limitations.

Ascension.

Rise with the Gods or fall with the dead.

Review:
The story has several points of view that allow you to know all sides of the war. A war that goes beyond the greed of an evil dictator, a war that will define the destiny of the entire universe. Jarrod is my favorite character, he’s our hero, though he often fails to see himself as one. Always protecting anyone who needs help even if jeopardizes his life, often times the voice of reason, Jarrod is an endearing and easy to root for character. The children he protects have lost a great part of their innocence and gained wisdom beyond their short age.

We are also introduced to the gods. Powerful and greedy creatures that have shaped the universe and created mortals, some really wicked, some good, some fall into a Grey area. One of the antagonist is a god, and what a danger it poses for the destiny of all creation.

One of the things I liked more about Ascension is that you get to fully understand the reasons behind everyone’s actions, so much that sometimes you find yourself sympathizing with the villains. But certainly not all the villains are likable, there a couple you’d love to strangle.

Matthew Johnson has created a world that traps you. From the eerie deserts to the palace of the gods, all scenarios have their own beauty the perfect complement to a great story. And the end, is perfect, several questions solved but new mysteries to uncover, it makes you eager to know what’s next.
Action, mythology, love, hate, war. What more can you ask for?

Her Blackened Soul by Isra Sravenheart

Her Blackened Soul (The Blackened, #1)Her Blackened Soul by Isra Sravenheart
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Magic, blood, power, and love. Though not the mellow love story you usually encounter. The beginning was a bit slow, but once the story picks up its pace you really enjoy the read. Our female protagonist, Isra, is a powerful witch consumed by darkness, and unapologetic about it which makes her refreshing. In fact the entire story is refreshing, told from an entirely different point of view that would make you question your moral compass.
The descriptions are beautifully made allowing you to enter the scene and savour it, the characters have depth, and the end is not an end but a new beginning.

Retribution by Matthew Johnson

RetributionRetribution by Matthew Johnson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I absolutely loved it! A gripping story from beginning to end, loaded with action and an impeccable plot. You enter a post-war world where retaliations on past actions continue to tear families apart, rich descriptions make you fully dive into the story. Jarrod is a relatable and layered character, not the strongest but certainly the most willing to do what he thinks is right. The end leaves you eager to get a hold on the next book as the story reaches a new high point.

Witch Awakening by Kira Morris

Witch Awakening (The Sister Witches Series Book 1)Witch Awakening by Kira Morris
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Once again my love for magic has been renewed. Kira Morris delivers a great story started by three young witches that struggle to find their place in the War World 2 era. Bridget, Rebecca, and Elizabeth are three lovely sister witches, each gifted with a unique power, and all bound by love.
Elizabeth, one of our leading characters has it even harder than her sisters, she has been asleep for more than 200 years waiting for a spell to free her. She has to deal not only with the cruel reality of the plot to force her and her sisters into using their powers for someone else's’ profit, but also with being out of her time and encountering someone she would prefer not to see ever again. Edward is physically identical to the man that betrayed Elizabeth and her sisters centuries ago, though the similarities end there. Despite growing in a dysfunctional home, Edward is a loyal man that fiercely protects the ones he loves.
Conspiracies, secrets, power, love, lust, this story has it all.

Mother of Shadows by Meg Anne

Mother of Shadows (The Chosen Book 1)Mother of Shadows by Meg Anne
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Beautiful. The world Meg Anne created is a mesmerizing one, full of color and magic. And speaking of magic I have to say I love the way is portrayed, how it changes the one who wields it. The characters are memorable, Helena is one of the most complete leads I've read recently: sensitive but strong, humble but empowered, fierce but caring. Von, Helena's mate is to die for, menacing, at first sight, but once the story unravels you can see his many qualities. He is the perfect complement to Helena and vice-versa, their relationship is a symbiotic one by all means. Helena's circle of protectors are an interesting lot, all carrying an important part of the whole, each unique and endearing.
The plot is very well designed, mysteries abound but also does action, there is no time to feel bored. One of my favorite things is the character development, especially Helena's, how she protects the ones she cares, even if they are the protectors, how she quickly matures and embraces her daunting fate, how unselfish she proves to be.
Overall a great book I devoured in a matter of hours.
