A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas

Synopsis:

Feyre's survival rests upon her ability to hunt and kill – the forest where she lives is a cold, bleak place in the long winter months. So when she spots a deer in the forest being pursued by a wolf, she cannot resist fighting it for the flesh. But to do so, she must kill the predator and killing something so precious comes at a price ...

Dragged to a magical kingdom for the murder of a faerie, Feyre discovers that her captor, his face obscured by a jewelled mask, is hiding far more than his piercing green eyes would suggest. Feyre's presence at the court is closely guarded, and as she begins to learn why, her feelings for him turn from hostility to passion and the faerie lands become an even more dangerous place. Feyre must fight to break an ancient curse, or she will lose him forever.

My review:

So, I decided to see what was the fuss about, and I was definitely not disappointed.
I had my doubts at the beginning, the first 20% of the book was slow for me, mainly because I wanted to slap some sense into Feyre, she was being too stubborn and repetitive. Fortunately that didn't last and the action and character development took off making the pages fly.
The worldbuilding was beautiful, the descriptions vivid, and the mythology easy to follow.
Feyre and Lucien became my favorite characters. I like how inventive and brave she can be under pressure. And Lucien, he can be so difficult to figure out, which is precisely why I enjoyed him so much. I tolerated Tamlin, but did not fell for him.
Amarantha was a good villain, she's bonkers, but has a motive. Under her anger and evil, she's hurt, that's what makes a villain interesting. With Rhysand I'm torn, I wanted to kill him at times, but then understood the reason behind his actions and gave him another chance.
The answer to the riddle was obvious for me after reading it once. Maybe I'm the exception, or maybe that was the author's intention, to have you mentally screaming at Feyre the obvious answer, I don't know.
That ending was great though, a mystery, a battle, a transformation, lots of action, I loved it.
I'm also pretty sure I know what Rhysand saw, let's see if I'm wrong.

Wandfasted by Laurie Forest

Synopsis:

"When they painted "Heretics" on our barn and set fire to it, I thought that was the worst it could get.

Until they sent the dragons.

But they didn't count on us having dragons of our own. And they certainly didn't count on Her. Our Great Mage. The Bringer of Fire. The Storm of Death. The Crow Sorceress. Our Deliverance.

The Black Witch."

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I'm having a seriously bad fangirling case. Wandfasted is amazing! I enjoyed it as much as The Black Witch.

Wandfasted tells the story of how Tessla and Vale (Elloren's parents) knew each other. It also shows why Carnissa Gardner became a legend, and believe me you don't want to miss that. With a fast pace and a beautiful worldbuilding, this book is simply impossible to put down once you start.

I absolutely loved getting to know Tessla, she's a badass, the kind of MC that I can't get enough of: intelligent, brave, selfless, strong and mature. Vale I had to warm up to, but once you get to know him better he's easy to love. I especially enjoyed that Vale (view spoiler).

Is also quite the experience getting to know the parents of other characters from the The Black Witch. You get a lot of: "now I get it".

I completely recommend this book for anyone who knows how to read, and if you don't, here's a good reason.

The Genesis of Evangeline by Rachel Jonas

Wolves. Dragon shifters. A fallen kingdom destined to rise again.

Evie Callahan is positive there's something strange going on in Seaton Falls, her new home. The locals are bigger, stronger, and faster than most. That includes Nick, the boy next door who's become her silver lining in this godforsaken town.

She wants to trust her instincts--about Nick, about what she suspects in Seaton Falls--but rumors of wolves and dragon shifters makes it hard to tell what's real. With a history of odd dreams and the nagging sense that she's never belonged, Evie fears she's losing touch with reality. Her concern only grows when someone who's haunted these dreams is suddenly tangible... and claims to hold the key to unlocking her true identity.

Finding out her entire life has been a lie is scary enough, but what's downright terrifying is discovering who she's destined to become.

Evie's much more than your average, seventeen-year-old girl.

And this is her genesis.

Synopsis
Ivy Morgan hasn't been feeling like herself lately. Not like anyone can blame her. After all, being held captive by a psychotic fae prince hell-bent on permanently opening the gates to the Otherworld is bound to leave some mental scars.

It’s more than that, though. Something dark and insidious is spreading throughout Ivy, more powerful than she could ever imagine... and it’s coming between her and the man she’s fallen deeply in love with, elite Order member Ren Owens.
Ren would do anything to keep Ivy safe. Anything. But when he makes a life altering choice for her, the fallout of his act has far reaching consequences that threaten to tear their lives apart.

If Ivy is going to have any hope of surviving this, she must put aside the hurt and betrayal she feels, and work with not only those she loves, but with an enemy she would rather kill than ever trust. War is coming, and it soon becomes clear that what Ivy and Ren thought they knew about the Order, themselves, and even their enemies, has been nothing but a cluster of dangerous, deadly lies. Broken, Book I of The Breach Chronicles by Ivy Logan

Broken is Book One in The Breach Chronicles series by Ivy Logan.

It is the tale of a young sorceress bereft of her powers but determined to avenge her family. She must rise from the ashes of destruction. Even though she thinks her heart is resistant, she can’t hide from love. Love find her and she finds the courage to stand tall because all that is Broken Is Not Lost. This is a tale of magic and mystery but also romance, family, and self - discovery.

Here's the synopsis:

The dark shadow cast by an ancient prophecy shatters an innocent family, but all that is broken is not lost.

Unaware of her supernatural legacy, half blood sorceress Talia has a unique childhood. Although protected by the love of her parents, Talia is instructed in the art of combat by her mother, Caitlin, a powerful sorceress of the Heichi clan.

When Talia’s family’s worst nightmare comes to pass, her protected life spins out of control. Everything she believes in and everyone she loves is cruelly snatched away and Talia is forced to flee the attentions of a mad king.

Choosing a path of retribution devoid of love and friendship, Talia comes to learn that love can be received even if it is not sought.

‘Broken’ chronicles, Talia’s rise from the ashes and how she finds herself again. She loses everything but never gives up on the Happily Ever After.

Set against a background of time travel and supernatural forces, read Talia’s epic saga of love, sacrifice, and discovering the hero within. Broken is thus the coming of age story of a girl who loses everything only to find herself and the courage to avenge her family, a tale of magic, mystery and romance.

My review:

A story about bravery, love, and how decisions can alter not just your fate, but the one of others.
Caitlin is a Heichi sorcerer that has received a devastating prophecy, she is to do the unthinkable, betraying herself and what she believes on.
Eventually, the weight of her curse falls upon her daughter's shoulders, Talia. A brave and loving girl, forced to become a woman sooner than she should have. But she embraces her fate head-on, with grace and courage despite the threat.
The message I received from Ivy Logan is "Love can conquer all"

A beautiful story.
